It has been over 5 years since the launch of the first Apple iPhone in 2007. Now, the world is gearing up for the next generation iPhone, which is rumored to release on September 5th. The event invitations sent from Apple also show A ’5' formed in the shadow of 12th September, hence we expect it to be named the iPhone 5.
It’s round the corner and the internet is full of rumors and expectations. So, here we are to give you an overview of the rumors and expected features of iPhone 5. The iPhone is known for its class and features which set it apart from the other mobile phones. The Samsung galaxy S3, HTC One X and many other high end phones are providing a stiff competition to Apple. The world is expecting more from apple this time to again regain the top most position.
It’s rumored as well as expected to have a new design, a bigger screen, a better camera, new processor and much more. There is no doubt that the latest version of OS the iOS 6 which has already been introduced to the world in August will also be available to the world with the launch of the next generation iPhone. It adds 2oo features to the already amazing iOS 5 which mostly include siri improvements, browsing and mailing improvements and the all new passbook feature. The new Maps from Apple will also be introduced with the iOS 6 which will give you turn by turn voice navigation, that too in a 3D view.
In this post I will tell you what all can you expect from Apple in the next generation iPhone in terms of hardware upgrades and design.
The iPhone 5 is rumored to have the all new classic design. The front what so ever remains the same but the back of the iPhone 5 is expected to be a metallic one this time, which may be a two toned design. The next gen iPhone might also be thinner, longer and wider as compared to the iPhone 4/4S. The iPhone 5 is also rumored to have a relocated front camera which now lies above the ear piece. The headphone jack has also been relocated to the bottom of the iPhone. The dock connector may also change to a 19 pin connector.
Rumors of tear drop iPhone appearance along with a metallic back are also common. The look of such iPhone will be more like the iPhone 3G/3GS but with a metallic back. The Home button might also be a little shallower this time.
With stiff competition from the likes of Samsung galaxy S3, HTC One X and other high end smartphones, reaching to a screen size of 4.8 inches. Apple is in great need to introduce a larger screen. In iPhone 5, it is expected to have increased to 4 inches from 3.5 inches screen diagonally. The hardware leaks of the next gen iPhone confirm such increase in size.
This will also result in the increase in number of pixels in the screen and the resolution of the next generation iPhone might increase to 640X1136p. Since the iPhone 5 is expected to have a 16:9 aspect ratio, reprogramming of the third generation apps will be required.
Apple has already introduced the new iPad with 4G technology, though it works only in some countries. The rumors of the iPhone 5 supporting 4G LTE Technology have already spread and with the news that Samsung is all set sue apple for 4G patents make it more possible, that the next generation iPhone might support 4G LTE after all.
Apple registered its patent for Nano SIM recently and news has come up since then that the next generation iPhone might also be using such smaller Nano SIM. And with providers like Verizon who have already started providing smaller SIM on customer request, chances of the next gen iPhone having nano SIM card slots have increased.
The inside package from apple includes the RAM, processor and the storage. According to rumors there are chances that the iPhone 5 might have an all new Apple A6 processor or the new iPad A5X processor. The iPhone 4S has a dual core A5 processor with 512 RAM, while the A5X is a quad core and if it’s A6 processor it’s expected to also be a Quad Core one both with a GB or more of RAM
The chances of increased RAM are also there. Apple is expected to increase the RAM form 512MB in iPhone 4S to 1GB or more in the iPhone 5.
Though the storage options might not differ as Apple launched the iPhone 4S in 64GB model already.
According to rumor mill, Apple has changed the displays it used to have. In order to decrease the thickness of the next gen iPhone Apple is using a new In-Cell display. So, you can expect the next iPhone to be much thinner than its predecessors. The new In-Cell Display has the touch sensor in the LCD screen only, thus it eliminates the need of a separate layer of for LCD and another for the touch sensor.
This will reduce the thickness of the next generation iPhone 5 to less 8mm as compared to the thickness of iPhone 4S that is 9.3mm.
There were rumors that the next generation iPhone might be available in different colors and in a 128GB variant also. But Apple being classy and conservative might not go up with this. Since iPhone 3G they have made their models available in only 2 colors, black and white. There were rumors that they might release an limited edition iPhone 5 with 128Gb storage and in a RED color option at a price of maybe $1000. I feel its the most unlikely rumor to be true.
There were many leaks previously showing a new 19 pin doc connector from Apple. This lead to both positive and negative reviews as the already available connector was available in many music boxes, speakers and all the docks were to be changed for the new iPhone or were to be left waste. We have heard that Apple might also release a conversion cable for the new iPhone. A smaller dock definitely look more stylish though.
Rumors are there that Apple might also release the next generation iPod or even an iPad mini with the all new design and better features. I feel that chances of a new iPod not on 12th September but maybe some other day are there rather than having an all new iPad mini. I feel an iPhone 5 with a screen more than 4 inches is equivalent to an iPad mini.
We will all know soon enough about what Apple has in store for us and which of these rumors true and which one them were false. Let’s wait and watch whether apple meets the expectations of the iPhone fans.
Out of all these features I personally feel that the next generation iPhone should have a bigger screen at least. The new design may or may not be there.
